Write up an investigation into the audience you are targeting with your Yagan project and how you plan to target them

Knowing your audience 👥

(T2informatik, n.d.)

Everyone has values. It’s the thing that informs our morals and constructs our attitudes. Likewise, in order to create an effective piece of media our likes and dislikes are often adhered to or even challenged.

This leads me to the question of the week:

⭐Investigate your audience and address how you plan to target them.

As I mentioned a week ago my project will be displayed in Yagan square in Perth city. As Yagan is near commuting and food areas it will be visible to a general public. However, the city does cater more towards adults and teens than children as a lot of adults work in the city and teens often hangout in there too. Despite this I plan to keep my project general and family oriented.

In order to cater to this audience I will need to consider their values. Since, “Values emerge— in human relation with the immediate culturally structured environments” (Valsiner & Branco, 2012, p. 1) people in the same environment (Perth) will likely share similar values. Furthermore, knowing my audience’s values will help decide what works and doesn't work. Some general family values consist of values like Self-compassion, kindness, empathy for others, responsibility, family time and perseverance (Waters, 2021).

As the Yagan square is in Perth I also want to consider Australian values. For instance,“Australian values based on freedom, respect, fairness and equality of opportunity” (Australian Government Department of home affairs, 2021).

I feel I can incorporate values such as empathy for others, kindness, responsibility, perseverance and connectivity through my driving storyline. This is shown through the characters in the background working together to build and rebuild their home despite the disruptive conditions. Furthermore, I feel that the idea of overcoming life’s hurdles is something everyone experiences and can relate to.

I also feel that I can address Australian values such as freedom, respect and opportunity through the use of my nature theme along with my story as nature gives off the idea of freedom and opportunity while the characters working alongside their environment rather than against it shows respect. It also works as nature is the world we live in and interact with every day.
